Reading notes for Bierce, Part B
-born in Ohio and raised in Indiana
-stories known as "Maxon's Master"
The Story: Maxon's Master
-do machines think? that was an unknown for Maxon
-a machine does think about the work it is doing
-Maxon suffered from insomnia
-are plants driven by a brain?
-a tussle went down in the "machineroom"
-claims it was a machine that lost its temper for a moment
-his friend left the machineshop, and in the dark rainy sky could still see the light on inside the room
-he went back to Maxon's and approached the machineroom
-the room was full of ruckus, and he knocked on the door repeatedly
-he entered the room and saw Maxon and another person playing chess
-the other man was short, but had a body like a gorilla
-he made the conclusion that the guy playing chess with Maxon was a machine, and automatic chess player
-a machine got loose and violently attacked another
-the machine was attacking Maxon, and choking him to death
-the man got hurt while trying to help Maxon, and woke up three days later in a hospital
-Maxon got killed, and Mr. Haley rescued the surviving man
