Introduction to a future Fire Fighter

Hello,

My name is Logan Huntze and this is my second year at LMC. I am working to get my Associates Degree in fire science. Once I finish my AS degree at LMC, I am considering going to paramedic school instead of transferring to a 4 year college. My favorite class so far at LMC was EMT class since it had a lot to do with what I am going to be doing in my career. My goal is to become a career firefighter with in the next 3 years. I would love to get hired and work at Contra Costa County Fire since that is where my dad works. I have grown up around the fire department and it has definitely been a big part of my life. I currently have two jobs and go to school full time. My favorite hobby is fishing; I have grown up living on the delta so fishing has always been in my backyard and a big part of my life. I competitively compete in fishing tournaments on the weekend, 1-3 tournaments a month usually. This also adds to the busyness of my life. I also enjoy wake boarding, surfing, or camping. Pretty much anything to do with the outdoors. In high school I played baseball all 4 years and that was some of the best times of my life. Once in awhile I regret not going to college to play, but I am happy with the decisions I have made and the things I have accomplished by staying home. My best friend would describe me as funny, hard working, determined and sometimes crazy. I listen to lots of different kinds of music, but my favorite is probably hip hop and country. I do a lot of commuting to school and work so I am always listening to music. This is only my second online class I have taken and computers is not one of my strong points. I currently have this online class and one other, kinesiology. This semester is going to be a busy one but  I am looking forward to a good and successful semester with this online class.

  1. Hi Logan. It is great that you want to follow you dad's footsteps. I work for Contra Costa County, one of my co-workers goes to the county website and prints out the job descriptions for his teenage children, so they can see what is required for the jobs they are interested in. Honestly, I would have never of thought of this, but since he has told me about it, I will do it for my children and I have already done it for my nephew. My nephew is a junior in high school and is interested in being a firefighter too. I am sure you know about the Contra Costa County Fire Explorers, but if you haven't I heard it's a great program and can help when you are looking into the field of a fire fighter. Good luck and have a great evening.

  2. Hi Logan, I think it's great that you want to become a firefighter and work in the Fire Department with your dad. I haven’t taken the EMT class at LMC but I am also very interested in it and hope to taking it soon as it could also help me with my career. Best of luck this semester for all of your classes.

  3. Hey, Logan!
Omg I love that you're planning on being a fire fighter and going to a paramedic school. Those are two careers that I truly admire (especially for I also have thought of being a fire fighter when I was younger). Also, it's amazing that you're following your dad's steps. Living and working together with someone we love seem the best of both worlds!
Aah!! I love country, too! It's my favorite genre! Who's your favorite singer btw?

  4. Hi Logan,

Wow, you definitely have a full plate! It is great to have such a specific goal of what you want for your future. I'm not sure if it is a mandatory requirement of candidates, but having your EMT certification is definitely going to help you on your road to your career. It sounds like you have an excellent mentor in your father, I hope you take every opportunity to take advantage of that!

    Best of luck to you!
    Amanda
