Reading Notes, Week 4, Royce, Part A

Notes for "Royce" part A

-middle of the gold rush
-she was born in England
-settled in grass valley and spend rest of life in California
-their journey:

-when the mountains got too steep, she let the mule guide and drive himself
-arrived safely to camp
-made way to a large hill
-realized she had made it to Sacramento
-she loved California from that moment
-tried to camp next to Col and his men every night
-history of Indians attacking emigrants
-the night of October 21st they made their camp
        -fires made, people asleep
        -foot steps arose, and guns/arrows had been fired
-two Indian men had made it to their camp
-one man was wounded by the arrows
-the men chased after the Indians firing weapons, but they got away
-on the 24th, they found two or three tents with men and there gold mining buckets
-finally slept without the fear of Indians
-after three days of rest, they moved onto a village called Weaverville
-made an effort to build a house
-ended up making a store to sell gold
-they sold cattle(beef) as well
-they were very successful, as every morning men would come to the store for fresh meat
-they all had a goal of becoming rich
