Reading Notes, Week 3, Crespi, Part A

 Notes for Fray Juan Crespi(Part A)

-Journey started Friday, July 28th
-started northwest along the mountains
-found a river bed that they were interested in
-found good land which could be easily irrigated
-Indians, 52 came to live with them
-the Indians were there to help build homes and provide food
-experienced a horrible earthquake, happened 4 times within 3 hours
-they learned about the Santa Ana river
- August 1st, a day for rest and exploring
-soldiers went on a hunt and brought back an antelope
-they left and found a new river bed
-8 heathen from a new village came and visited them when they arrived
-old men smoked pipes while heating clay
-August 3rd, left the camp again and headed up the Porciuncula River
-entered a large vineyard of grapes
-found great soil that was sufficient for planting anything they wanted
-found some more villagers offering them seeds
-they pitched a camp near the water
-the final place they had stopped was called The Spring of the Alders of San Estevan
